These free mental health and counseling apps provide accessible support for managing stress, anxiety, and emotional well-being through self-help tools, guided exercises, and virtual counseling. These apps can serve as a helpful resource for individuals who may not have access to traditional therapy, offering a more convenient and affordable alternative.
Happify
Science based activities/games to overcome stress, worry, negative thoughts. Promotes positive emotions. Ages 4+
Virtual Hope Box
Emotional regulation. Coping and relaxation skills, distraction and positive thinking. Games that teach controlled breathing exercises. App was created by DOD psychologists. Ages 4+
Clarity- CBT Mood Tracker
Challenges and reframes thoughts. Educates on the different categories of thought. Ages 4+
Headspace
for Calming, reducing stress, and practicing mindfulness. Provides guided meditations in which you can pick your practice instructor. Ages 4+
Calm
Meditation and relaxation. To increase calm and mindfulness. They have a premium version for a price but the basic is free. Ages 4+
Mesmerize
Visual meditation. Combines visual and audio sounds to help with anxiety, calm down, and falling asleep. Ages 4+
Smiling Mind
Developed by psychologists. Reduces stress. 300 free meditations, positive psychology strategies to build resilience and promote social/emotional skills. The app will ask if you’re an adult or kid to get you to the correct exercises. Ages 4+
Relax Melodies Seasons: Stress reduction
Several different relaxing sounds and sleep meditations that you can custom mix and fall asleep to (the app has a timer you can set). You can mix your sounds/beats or theirs. Ages 4+
PTSD COACH
Self-assessment, management, and support for Veterans with PTSD. Created by the VA’s National Center for PTSD, by psychologists. Relaxation skills, positive self-talk, and anger management. Not for children.

Sleep tracker to analyze and improve sleep habits. Daily personalized coaching with an AI sleep coach. You can listen to your sleep noises, record, and track snoring. Ages 4+
